 Description:

A nationwide program to mainstream Gender equality in all national development programs and activities was initiated by the Government of Rwanda immediately after the emergency period that followed the tragic Genocide of the Tutsi of 1994. The change that Rwanda wanted concerning promoting and empowering women was firstly manifested in the 2003 Constitution which stipulates that women should constitute 30 percent in all leadership positions in the country. It is from the above background that the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) in collaboration with the Gender Monitoring Office (GMO) and UN Women through ONE UN / Delivering as One (DaO) embarked on establishing a comprehensive Gender Statistics Framework (GSF) resulting in Gender Statistics Report with gender equality highlights in key development sectors. The aim of the framework is not only to encourage policy debates in particular around gender gaps but also capture good practices by providing evidence.
