Peacebuilding and sustaining peace

The third review of the United Nations peacebuilding architecture was requested in landmark twin resolutions on peacebuilding and sustaining peace, namely General Assembly resolution 70/262 and Security Council resolution 2282 (2016). Launched in October 2019, the review takes place at a time when there is greater consensus than ever that the human and financial costs of responding to crisis rather than investing in prevention are unsustainably high. The celebration of the seventy-fifth anniversary of the United Nations is an opportunity to recall the aspiration, expressed in the Charter of the United Nations, to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war.
