Trust and accountability are central for civil society organisations (CSOs) to work and thrive. People and organisations bestow trust on CSOs to advocate and work for their needs and priorities. This trust builds on the shared values between the CSOs and their stakeholders; a common understanding of the way the relationship between them works; and the CSOs effectively achieving those expectations. When the CSO meets the expectations of its stakeholders, it is accountable and becomes a credible partner and actor. If CSOs are trusted and deemed accountable, people and organisations collaborate with them more closely and frequently; donors have the confidence that resources are used wisely; and staff and
volunteers are empowered to achieve the CSOs’ objectives.
